Roberto Bonomi (born September 30, 1919 in Buenos Aires , † January 10, 1992 ibid) was an Argentine automobile racing driver .

Career

Roberto Bonomi grew up as the son of wealthy parents in Argentina. Bonomi himself owned large estates in his homeland. His motorsport activities were almost exclusively limited to South America, but in the 1950s he competed twice in the Targa Florio . In 1952 and 1953 he was Argentine sports car champion. Different vehicles from the Ferrari brand were used . In 1954 he drove the entire sports car season in a Ferrari 250MM Vignale . Bonomi won several 500 mile road races including the Primavera event, the Costa Nera Lealtad, and the Mendoza race.

In the 1950s he regularly drove the 1000 km race in Buenos Aires with the support of European and American works teams such as Scuderia Ferrari , Maserati and Chevrolet . In 1957 he was seventh overall with Luigi Piotti as a partner on a Maserati 350S .

Towards the end of the 1950s, Bonomi continued to drive in the Argentine sports car championship, but switched from Ferrari to Maserati. His new vehicle was a Maserati 300S .

His only start in the automobile world championship was in 1960 at the Grand Prix of Argentina . Bonomi bought in for a race at the Scuderia Centro Sud . With a Cooper T51 -Maserati, Bonomi started the race from 17th on the grid and finished eleventh, four laps behind.
