1000 km race from Zeltweg 1973

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fifth 1000 km race of Zeltweg , also 1000 km Österreichring (International Brand World Championship of the FIA), Österreichring, Zeltweg , took place on June 24, 1973 and was the ninth round of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

In 1973 Ferrari lost its superiority in the sports car world championship. With Matra and their MS670 , as well as the Mirage M6 from Gulf Racing, the Scuderia were two strong opponents. There was also a three-way battle between these three racing teams in the 1000 km race at the Österreichring - a sporting confrontation that Matra was able to decide in his favor. After 4: 48: 57.800 hours of racing time, Henri Pescarolo and Gérard Larrousse won ahead of their team-mates Jean-Pierre Beltoise and François Cevert . Ferrari had to be content with third place overall, ahead of the two Mirages.
