Silvio Moser (born April 24, 1941 in Zurich ; † May 26, 1974 in Locarno ) was a Swiss automobile racing driver .
Career
Moser started as a private driver between 1967 and 1971 in Formula 1 . He dropped out prematurely in eight of his twelve Formula 1 starts, meaning that he was only able to drive four races the full distance. In two of these four races he achieved championship points:
- 5th place at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands in 1968
- 6th place at the 1969 USA Grand Prix
As a result of his injuries sustained in an accident in the 1000 km sports car race in Monza on April 25, 1974 , Moser died on May 26, 1974. On the 144th lap of the race, Moser lost control of a 2-liter car in the Ascari chicane. Lola T294 and crashed at high speed against the March 75S in the run-off zone, which Gabriele Serblin had parked there after a gearbox failure. Moser suffered severe head injuries and was taken to the Ospedale Niguarda Ca 'Granda in Milan in an ambulance , where he was operated on that evening. A few days later the family moved to a clinic in Locarno , where further operations followed. Silvio Moser died 31 days after the race from the long-term consequences of the accident.
