Brian Muir

Brian Muir (born June 30, 1931 - September 11, 1983 ) was an Australian racing car driver .

Career

Brian Muir was one of the most successful drivers in touring car racing in the late 1960s and early 1970s . In 1965 he was third in the overall ranking of the touring car championship in his home country and came to Europe with this recommendation. Muir drove in the British Touring Car Championship and finished second in the championship in 1968 on a Ford Falcon Sprint . In 1970 he was third in the championship; his vehicle that season was a Chevrolet Camaro . Muir drove in this racing series until 1976. In the European Touring Car Championship , his best overall result was second place in the final standings in 1973. This season he drove a BMW 3.0 CSL from Alpina Racing .

Muir also competed in sports car races. For years he was a works driver for John Wyer and competed for his team in the sports car world championship . At the 24 Hours of Le Mans he drove the Mirage M1 and the Ford GT40 . In four starts, however, he was unable to place in any of these endurance races . In 1969, he drove the race with some work - Lotus 62 .

On the way home from a race at Silverstone in September 1983, Muir collapsed and died.
