from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lotus 62 was a Group 6 prototype in 1969 Lotus developed by Team Lotus was used in sports car racing.

The Lotus 62 was based on the Type 47 , which was sold as Lotus Europa . The type 904 was used as the engine. Lotus revised a 4-cylinder Vauxhall engine and equipped it with a new cylinder head with 16 valves and an injection system. The five-speed gearbox was supplied by Hewland . Two copies were built, which received plastic bodies. The 62 had 12 " aluminum wheels at the front and 15" at the rear .

The first of the two prototypes made its debut in 1969 at the Brands Hatch 6-hour race with John Miles and Brian Muir at the wheel. Despite a few teething troubles, the duo reached 13th place overall at the end of the race and won the prototype class up to 2 liters. After the race, John Miles stated in an interview that the car could not have made another lap. The second example was only used in British sports car races, where the 62 almost always won its class. Although the concept of the Lotus 62 was quite successful, no further use was made in 1970.
