Watkins Glen 6 Hours 1979
The 1979 Watkins Glen 6-Hours , also 6-Hours including The Trans-Am and The Can-Am for the SCCA Citicorp Can-Am Challenge, The Glen, Toyota Paces The Races, Watkins Glen Grand Prix Circuit , took place on July 7th in Watkins Glen and was the twelfth round of the World Sports Car Championship of this year.
The race
In contrast to the races of the Manufacturers' World Championship in Europe, where the championship experienced an apparently unstoppable disease, the races in North America enjoyed great popularity. 43 teams with international driver crews started the race on race Sunday. For the brothers Don and Bill Whittington , who won the race four laps ahead of Rolf Stommelen , Dick Barbour and Hollywood actor and amateur racing driver Paul Newman , it was the fourth win of the season. Before that, they won the Riverside 6 Hours , the Le Mans 24 Hours (with Klaus Ludwig as the third driver) and the Daytona 6 Hours (with Dennis Shaw ). As in Le Mans , Glen Klaus Ludwig was the third driver at Watkins. The emergency vehicle was a Porsche 935 in all cases .
