The Silverstone 1000 km race 1987 , also Autoglas 1000 kms, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit , took place on May 10th in Silverstone and was the fourth round of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

The Jaguar works team , led by Tom Walkinshaw , came to the fourth world championship round of the year in Silverstone as a three-time winner of the season. Jan Lammers and John Watson in the Jaguar XJR-8 won the first race of the season, the 360 km race in Jarama, and they also won the third race, the 1000 km race in Monza . The second race of the year, the 1000 km race in Jerez , was won by Eddie Cheever and Raul Boesel , also on an XJR-8.

The best training time the group C1 but scored Hans-Joachim Stuck on a plant - Porsche 962 . The German achieved a time of 1.15.110 minutes, which corresponds to an average of 229.014 km / h. Compared to Formula 1 , eight seconds were missing over one lap. At the British Grand Prix in July of the same year, Nelson Piquet set a pole position time of 1: 07: 110 minutes in the Williams FW11B .

The race ended with a Jaguar one-two. Eddie Cheever and Raul Boesel won with a lead of six seconds over teammates Jan Lammers and John Watson. In Group C2, Ray Mallock and David Leslie remained victorious in an Ecosse C286 , who were 19 laps behind the first-placed Jaguar at the finish. Only one vehicle was registered in the GTP class. James Weaver , Andrew Gilbert-Scott and Richard Cleare finished ninth overall on a March 85G .
