The Kiel-Hassee – Kiel West railway was a freight train route in the city of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein . It was opened in 1924 and was completely dismantled from 2008 to 2018.

history

At the beginning of the 20th century , the Prussian state railway planned a railway line to connect the Holtenau harbor . Due to the First World War , it was not carried out. After the war, construction began and on January 2, 1924, the line from Kiel-Hassee station on the Kiel-Flensburg railway line to the Kiel West freight station was opened. The station was built in such a way that an extension to Holtenau would have been possible. This extension was not implemented.

At Kiel West station there were several loading lanes, a goods handling facility , several sidings and a long pull-out siding over Olshausenstrasse to ELAC on the route to Holtenau that was previously planned. The Northeast Sea Hall was on the route . This was used as a granary during the Second World War. As a result, a vegetable market opened at Kiel West train station. With the relocation of industrial operations and transport to trucks, transport services on the railroad declined in later years.

The last operation was carried out in October 1993. Then Seehafen Kiel GmbH & Co. KG bought the line from Deutsche Bahn and held it for a few years. In 2008, the connection point in Kiel-Hassee station was removed. The area of the Kiel West train station has so far been partially built over.

Bike route 10

The main line was completely dismantled between 2013 and 2018 in order to build Veloroute 10 instead . A first section between Hasseldieksdammer Weg and Kronshagener Weg was opened in autumn 2013. On the two bridges over Eckernförder Straße and Gutenbergstraße, the bike route is 3.30 meters wide, otherwise at least 4 meters. The ramps on the route at Petersweg, Gutenbergstrasse North, Gutenbergstrasse South and Grasweg 18 are each 2.50 meters wide. The route has no traffic lights. Cyclists only encounter car traffic at the crossing Kronshagener Weg and Hasseldieksdammer Weg.

In July 2018, the northern end of Veloroute 10 between Schauenburgstraße and Christinenweg was opened on the grounds of the Christian Albrechts University .

The southern part of the cycle route from Hasseldieksdammer Weg to the “Kiel-Hassee Citti-Park” stop was completed in 2019.

The total costs for the construction of Veloroute 10 amount to five million euros for a 4.2 km route, four access ramps and four bridges.
