Hervé Regout
Hervé Regout (born November 4, 1954 in Liège ) is a former Belgian racing driver .
Monopostosport
The Wallone Regout drove its first international car races in the British Formula 3 Championship in the mid-1970s. 1979 tried to gain a foothold in Formula 1 through an engagement in the Aurora AFX Formula 1 series . For RAM Racing he contested a few races of the season on a Chevron B42 in this championship , but was largely unsuccessful. At the Rivet Supply Trophy in May 1979 in Thruxton , he retired in the third round after an engine failure. The race in ZandvoortHe finished 12th and thus outside of the points. More failures and poor placements followed.
In 1981 he drove one more race in the Formula 2 European Championship for Bertram Schäfer Racing , then he concentrated entirely on his career as a sports car racing driver.
Career in sports car racing
In contrast to the lack of success in monopostor races, his career in sports car racing developed successfully. He contested his first sports car races in national club races in Belgium in the 1970s. In 1979 he started at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race and made his debut at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1980 with tenth place overall .
After his engagement with Charles Pozzi , he signed a contract with Obermeier Racing in 1983 and achieved many results among the top ten in the sports car world championship for the German racing team until 1986 . In 1987 he switched to Courage Compétition and achieved third place overall in 1987, his best result at Le Mans.
Regout drove professionally until 1998 when he retired from racing. In 2010 he made a comeback in two races of the Grand Prix Masters and has been driving historic Group C races in a Porsche 962 since 2011 .
