In 1979 he started at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race and made his debut at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1980 with tenth place overall .

After his engagement with Charles Pozzi , he signed a contract with Obermeier Racing in 1983 and achieved many results among the top ten in the sports car world championship for the German racing team until 1986 . In 1987 he switched to Courage Compétition and achieved third place overall in 1987, his best result at Le Mans.

Regout drove professionally until 1998 when he retired from racing. In 2010 he made a comeback in two races of the Grand Prix Masters and has been driving historic Group C races in a Porsche 962 since 2011 .
