Bertram Schäfer

Bertram Schäfer (born March 18, 1946 in Bitburg ) is Vice President of the German Formula 3 Association and a former German motorsport team owner and racing driver.

Bertram Schäfer started his racing career in formula racing. In 1975 he was runner-up in Formula 3 on a March 743 Toyota in the German championship . A year later and in 1978 he was able to celebrate his greatest racing success and secure the German Formula 3 championship title with a Ralt RT1 BMW.

After the 1978 season, he ended his racing career and concentrated on his team Bertram Schäfer Racing (BSR). His BSR team was very successful and between 1980 and 2001 was able to provide the German Formula 3 champions seven times. In 1993 the team won the Formula 3 B Cup with Patrick Bernhardt. His most famous Formula 3 drivers included Frank Jelinski , Stefan Bellof , Kris Nissen , Tom Kristensen and Nick Heidfeld . Thanks to these successes, the BSR team enjoyed international recognition.

Today he is Vice President of the German Formula 3 Association and takes care of the continued existence of the German Formula 3 Cup, which was founded in 2002 .

During his active racing career, Schäfer only competed in a closed racing car in the super sprint race at the Nürburgring. There he drove in 1977 in the 1st Division of the German Racing Championship (DRM) with a Porsche 934 on a ninth place.
