Patrick Bernhardt (born July 11, 1951 in Jarville , Meurthe-et-Moselle ) is a former French soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Bernhardt started playing soccer at a local club in his native Jarville near Nancy . He was discovered by AS Nancy talent scouts and hired for the club's youth team in 1967. In 1972 he moved up to the professional team at the same time as Michel Platini . There he was only intended as the third goalkeeper behind Jean-Michel Fouché and Gilbert Conrath , but still played three appearances in the first division in his first season . This was followed by the 1973/74 season without a single use, so that Bernhardt could not prevent relegation to the second division . He also benefited from the move of the goalkeeper Fouché to Red Star Paris and was intended as the first goalkeeper for the following season. In this season he did not miss a game and was also able to celebrate the return to the first division. Despite his good performance in the previous season, he was replaced by Jean-Michel Moutier after the fourth match day after the season had started badly with twelve goals conceded in four games.

Because he was not satisfied with his role as the second goalkeeper, he decided in 1976 at the end of the season to move to the second division Amicale Lucé . In Lucé he was set as a regular goalkeeper and played for a long time in his first year with the team for promotion. He completed two more solid seasons and kept the team in the second division. In 1979 he decided to return to Nancy, where he had to make do with the role of substitute keeper again. He came on five more first division appearances, which were his last, since he decided in 1980 after 13 first division games and 121 second division games for the end of his professional career. In the same year he went back to Lucé and joined the club, which was relegated to the third division, in amateur football. He remained a regular goalkeeper for four years and took on the responsibility of coaching the team before finally giving up football in 1984. Following the end of his career, he was head of the youth department at AS Nancy for many years.
