Nils-Kristian "Kris" Nissen (born July 20, 1960 in Arnum , Denmark ) is a former Danish car racing driver and former motorsport director at VW .

Career

Kris Nissen started as a kart driver in 1974, winning the Danish Kart Championship twice. He was a test driver in the Zakspeed team in Formula 1 and in the DTM for BMW and Alfa Romeo. In 1986 he won the German Formula 3 Championship for BSR Racing .

Nissen survived on July 22, 1988 a fire accident in a Porsche 962 of Group C on the Japanese Fuji Speedway. Nissen is clearly marked by the consequences of this accident to this day. He made his comeback in racing cars in July 1989 in the DTM in a BMW M3 at the Norisring race . In 1991 he won the Nürburgring 24-hour race with Joachim Winkelhock and Armin Hahne in a BMW M3 . He achieved his only victory in the DTM in 1994. He contested his last season in 2000 as a driver for the Abt-Team Abt Sportsline in an Abt-Audi TT-R in the DTM .

Since 1998 he has been the chief instructor responsible for promoting talent in the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup.

With effect from May 1, 2012, Nissen resigned as motorsport director at VW at his own request and is now available to the group as a consultant.

Personal

Kris Nissen is married and has two children. The Dane speaks very good German.
