Trimming plane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A trimming planer (also cutting planer) is an outdated device in which the pages of a book block could be cut to size in the past . This tool has not been used since the advent of the semi-automatic three - knife trimmer .

Trimming plane

use

The sides are cut to size by guiding a knife drawer over the side of the clamped block to be planed , cutting off the protruding paper strips layer by layer.

Either the entire knife drawer or just the knife itself is gradually lowered until the side of the book block is completely cut to size. By reclamping the book block, all three unsized pages can be trimmed.

In today's series production of books in book printing shops , the hot -glued book blocks are trimmed by machine with three-knife trimming machines .
