The book block consists of the printed , folded , glue-bound or thread-sewn and trimmed individual leaves - the layers - of a book . The first / top page of the book block can be the title page , the dirty or front title or also a copper title .

Before that, the layers were gathered ( collated ) in the bookbinding shop . To complete the book or the brochure , you hang the book block in a book cover or in a book cover . This is how the book block is connected to the cover .
