Fredrik Claesson (* 24. November 1992 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who, since February 2020 the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Binghamton Devils in the American Hockey League for use comes. Previously, he spent six years in the Ottawa Senators organization and briefly served with the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes .
Career
Fredrik Claesson began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of the Haninge HF. From there he moved to the youth department of Hammarby Hockey , for whose professional team he came to two missions in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, in the 2007/08 season . The club then went bankrupt and the defender joined city rivals Djurgårdens IF , where he initially only played in the junior division. In the 2010/11 season he made his debut for the professional team of Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien . In his rookie year , he scored two goals and one assist in a total of 42 games. In the following season he rose with his team in the HockeyAllsvenskan. However, he himself signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League , who had selected him in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 126 players. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he first played for their farm team Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League (AHL) before making his debut for Ottawa in the NHL in the 2015/16 season.
After six years in the Senators' organization, he did not get a further contract after the 2017/18 season, so he joined the New York Rangers as a free agent in July 2018 . In the same way, he moved to the Carolina Hurricanes in September 2019 . However, they only used him in the AHL at the Charlotte Checkers before he was handed over to the New Jersey Devils for the trade deadline in February 2020 with Janne Kuokkanen and a conditional four-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2020 . In return, the Hurricanes received Sami Vatanen .
International
For Sweden , Claesson took part in the 2010 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2012 U20 World Junior Championship . At the U18 World Cup 2010 he and his team won the silver medal, and at the U20 World Cup 2012 the gold medal.
