There are two racing series called Grand Prix Masters . On the one hand there is the Grand Prix Masters, a racing series for Formula 1 racing cars from 1966 to 1977, and on the other hand the GP Masters, an event for former Formula 1 racing drivers.

Youngtimer vehicles

The Grand Prix Masters is part of the Masters Series . In it, gentleman drivers compete in racing cars that date back to before the ground effect and turbo era of Formula 1. The racing cars driven there all have an active racing history and are part of the varied Formula 1 history. In the series that has existed for several years, seven races were contested in 2007. The venues were Brands Hatch , Silverstone , Donington Park , Porto and the Nürburgring .

At the GP Masters, introduced in 2005 for Formula 1 drivers who are no longer active , the minimum age for participation was 45 years. Furthermore, every participant had to have contested Formula 1 races in two seasons.

The French Jacques Laffite was the oldest participant at 63 years of age. From Germany, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Christian Danner were also there .

The races were held on uniform racing vehicles. These were based on the chassis of the Reynard - ChampCar from 1999. The engine was a 3.5 liter V8 from Nicolson-McLaren and was based on the Cosworth V8 used in the ChampCar series. However, the vehicles did not have the turbocharger used there.

After a court application by the chassis supplier Delta Special Projects , the operating company of the series was dissolved and the end of this racing series was sealed in November 2007.
