Tim Lee-Davey was a member of the British karting team in the 1970s and switched to monoposto racing in 1980 . In addition to his first outings in Formula 3 , he drove a full season in the British Formula Ford Championship , which he finished as the overall winner. A few years in the British Formula 3 Championship followed . He had his best season in 1983 when he was twelfth overall on a Ralt RT3 ( Ayrton Senna won the championship ahead of Martin Brundle and Davy Jones ).

The sports car career began in 1984 . He competed in races in the Thundersports series and was a regular starter in the sports car world championship from 1985 . First as a driver at Tiga Race Cars and Spice Engineering , later with the own racing team Team Davey . His greatest success as a driver was the sixth place in the 360 km race at Sandown Park , a championship race in 1988 . He competed five times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans . The best place in the final classification was 15th in 1989 , with Tom Dodd-Noble and Katsunori Iketani in the Porsche 962C registered by their own team .

In 1988 he started his own team, which was in financial trouble from the start. In order to be able to maintain the expensive racing operations for two Porsche 962C, Tim Lee-Davey puts every available money into the team. When it was dissolved in 1991, he was in debt of £ 774,000 . He tried unsuccessfully to sue for missing payments from drivers Alfonso Toledano and Fulvio Ballabio . In the second half of the 1990 season he rented a Porsche first to the Mexican Michel Jourdain senior and then to the former Miss Austria Mercedes Stermitz . The resulting income couldn't stop the end of the team.
