Tiga was a British manufacturer of single- seater racing cars and sports cars .

The company was founded in 1975 by racing drivers Howden Ganley and Tim Schenken . They took over the small British racing car company MRE , which built Formula Ford and Formula 3 racing cars in small numbers in the early 1970s .

At Tiga, too, the designer Martin Read initially built Formula Ford vehicles with 1.6 and 2 liter engines. There were also sports cars for the small sports car classes. In 1978 , a brief entry into Formula 1 was considered; The chassis and parts of the suspension had already been made when the project was canceled. In Formula 3, the team started in the late 1970s with vehicles from March and Ralt .

Tim Schenken left Tiga in the early 1980s and Ganley had his first Formula 3 racing car developed, the F381 . After the Formula 1 commitment had not materialized, Tiga turned to Formula 2 . With the F280 , a conventional and faster racing car was built. However, the team suffered a serious setback when the German Hans-Georg Bürger had a fatal accident during warm-up training for the Formula 2 race in Zandvoort .

After Bürger's death, the team switched to building CanAm vehicles and sports cars.
