Satyrian is a Dutch dark rock band. It emerged from the Belgian band Danse Macabre .

Band history

Parts of the original cast worked together in Gunther Theys ' project Danse Macabre from 2002 . This first line-up included Jan Yrlund (guitar), Miloš Marićević and Merijn Mol (drums). Producer Oliver Philipps ( Everon ), Judith "Ciara" Stüber and Kemi Vita took part as guest vocalists on the 2002 EP Matters of the Heart , which was created without Theys participating . Satyrian recruited Roman Schönsee (ex- Pyogenesis ) as a singer for a summer tour of Finland , while Oliver Philips took over the piano.

While working on the new Danse Macabre album, it was decided to include the guest musicians as permanent band members. In June 2004 it was decided to change the band name to Satyrian. With Lion Music Records a new record company was found and it was decided to put the band center in the Netherlands.

Before the new album was released, the group released the remix album The Dark Gift with techno remixes of some of the songs from the debut album. The band The Dreamside , which includes Kemi Vita, Roman Schönsee and Merijn Mol, was responsible for some of the songs . In 2006 the debut album Etermitas was released . In 2007 the remix album was also reissued.

Music genre

Satyrian plays Dark Rock with influences from Gothic Metal , Wave and Classical music . What is unusual about the group is the use of two singers who are, however, very similar. The male counterpart can be stylistically assigned to the singing in Gothic Rock of, for example, The Sisters of Mercy . The remix album, on the other hand, contains danceable versions of the pieces with influences from industrial rock and Eurodance .

“The band is partly defined by the above-average number of singers (2 female, 2 male). The songs are stylistically very different from one another, with most of them being in the faster dark rock area. "
