Pyogenesis is a rock and metal band from Stuttgart, which musically developed from death metal to gothic metal to alternative rock and power pop .

Band history

From a local band called Immortal Hate and singer / guitarist Flo V. Schwarz , Pyogenesis emerged in the summer of 1991. The band members met in a discotheque in the greater Stuttgart area. In the same year were from the previously recorded death metal and grindcore - demo tape Ode to the Churning Seas of Nar-Mataru the 7 "single Rise of the Unholy on the Mexican label released mephitic Productions. A short time later, Sacrificious Profanity was also released as a vinyl single on Symphonies of Death Records from Colombia. Both publications were initially available in an edition of 1,000 and were already sold out in advance, so that there were reprints, which were, however, marked as such. In the autumn of 1992, the debut album Ignis Creatio was recorded for the French label Osmose Productions . Despite the playing time of 31 minutes, it was marketed as a full-fledged album. For the album, Pyogenesis included clear chants and harmonic riffs in the music for the first time.

Later in 1993, the album Sweet X-Rated Nothings was recorded, in which Nuclear Blast showed great interest. The two record companies were able to agree on a change, whereupon Pyogenesis signed with Nuclear Blast. The first release for the new label was the mini EP Waves of Erotasia with a total length of 16 minutes on cassette and CD instead of the album . Prior to its release in 1994, it co-headlined Europe with UK Anathema in January. In November of the same year, the album Sweet X-Rated Nothings was released. Musically, the album continued the development of the group and was more melodic and with intensified clear vocals. This was followed by major appearances for the newly founded music channel VIVA and at Popkomm in the Live Music Hall in Cologne.

In February and March 1995 Pyogenesis completed their first two-week tour through the former Eastern Bloc , including Poland and the then just disbanded ČSSR . In April of that year, Pyogenesis played for the first time in Mexico. The following year the group played at various music festivals . From March 1995, the follow-up album Twinaleblood was recorded in the band's own recording studio. Before the album was released, Pyogenesis and Harris Johns produced the song Son of Fate in Berlin as an exclusive contribution to the compilation Death is Just the Beginning… . In the meantime, the group moved to the major label Warner Music and released the album Twinaleblood on December 1, 1995 . The album received recognition from national and international media. In the course of the publication, an almost three-month European tour followed, followed by festival appearances and a few club shows. For the two single releases Twinaleblood and Addiction Pole , video clips were shot in the Luxembourg mountains and in the vicinity of Trier, both were airplayed by MTV and Viva.

In the early summer of 1996 another 19 songs were recorded for two releases. The EP Love Nation Sugarhead , which preceded the album , was released on October 18, 1996 and contained 6 songs, 4 of which were not included on the subsequent album. In the same month the video clip for the title song was shot, which was shown again by the music channel VIVA. Pyogenesis played a tour with Social Distortion in the fall / winter of the same year, followed by the album Unpop in January 1997 . Later in the year work began on the fourth album, which was produced from spring 1998. Pyogenesis interrupted recording for festival appearances. On November 2, 1998, Mono… or Will It Ever Be the Way It Used to Be was released. Tim Eiermann and Wolfgang Maier joined the band Liquido , originally planned as a project, in the course of the year and achieved higher chart positions there. Both left Pyogenesis. For the next three and a half years, Pyogenesis toured internationally. Pyogenesis also organized a butter trip with 50 selected fans in a coach across Germany. The fellow travelers visited the editorial staff of Visions magazine, a concert by the band in a disused mining facility, an unplugged show on the banks of the Rhine, the VIVA station and were involved in choir recordings with producer Wolfgang Stach on the title Restless Legs .

The Nuclear Blast label wanted to release a best-of compilation, which didn't meet the band's expectations. Instead, the remix album P… or Different Songs in Different Sounds was released on July 24, 2000 to fulfill the contract with Nuclear Blast. In the time since Mono… or Will It Ever Be the Way It Used to Be , Pyogenesis wrote 28 songs, which were produced from summer 2001 onwards. On the Internet, fans were able to vote on snippets of the songs and thus influence the track listing of the album being created.

In 2002 Flo V. Schwarz founded Hamburg Records . On May 7th, the 5 song EP I Feel Sexy and on June 3, 2002 the album She Makes Me Wish I Had a Gun was released. In the following years the band made several tours through Europe. In 2003 Pyogenesis co-headlined the Summer Breeze on the Painstage. From 2005 the band only toured abroad. The last concerts before a long unannounced band break took place at the Snowboard World Cup in Moscow.

At the end of 2012, Pyogenesis announced on their website that they would be releasing a strictly limited new edition with three bonus tracks on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of their debut album. In March 2014, another limited anniversary edition of Waves of Erotasia was published. In 2013, Metal Hammer listed Pyogenesis in a list of the most missing bands. On June 25, 2014 Pyogenesis announced they would headline the November to Dismember Metal Fest in the Romanian capital, Bucharest . Further appearances, such as at the Summer Breeze 2015 followed. On April 22nd, Flo V. Schwarz announced in a video message on the band's Facebook page that Pyogenesis was working on new material, followed two weeks later by another video message from the album recordings that had already started. The album A Century in the Curse of Time was released on August 14, 2015 via AFM Records .
