MDD Records is a German music label founded in 1993 with headquarters in Nordhausen (Nordheim) in Baden-Württemberg . MDD also owns the Black Sunset sub-label, founded in March 2017.
General
The label's focus is on heavy metal , with all metal sub-genres covered, from hard rock to thrash and death metal to black metal .
The most well-known bands in the label's current portfolio include the Greek thrash metal band Exarsis and the German band Nocte Obducta . In its past, the label can also look back on previous releases by bands such as Pyogenesis , Sacred Steel or Night in Gales .
history
Today's label MDD Records has its origins in the “Magic Demo Distribution” cassette distribution by Matthias Kietzmann from Calberlah in Lower Saxony. He appeared in the metal scene at the beginning of the nineties as a contact person and German source of supply for demo tapes from foreign bands such as Ritual Sacrifice, False Prophet and others.
In 1992 Matthias Kietzmann emigrated to Mexico and later founded his own label there with X-Rated Records . In advance, however, he decided to close down his now extensive demo distribution. The contact between Kietzmann and the then 17-year-old Markus Rösner from Nordhausen came about through classified ads in scene media. Rösner subsequently took over the entire portfolio and fulfilled a long-cherished dream in which he gave himself a mail order business for his 18th birthday. He continued this under the abbreviation “MDD” and from 1993 expanded his mail order and publishing activities.
MDD Records has released around 100 albums to date (August 2015).
