Gunther Theys (born May 19, 1965 in Diest ) is a Belgian metal singer and bassist. Besides his main band Ancient Rites he is active in several other bands.

biography

In the late 1970s / early 1980s, Theys sang and played bass in several punk , hardcore , and Oi! -Bands that never came out on the status of a local band.

In 1989, Theys and friends founded the black metal group Ancient Rites , of which he remained the only active founding member. He has recorded a total of five studio albums with the group so far.

In 1995 he founded the gothic metal band Danse Macabre together with the Greek musicians Sotiris Vayenas ( Septic Flesh ) and George Zaharopoulos ( Necromantia ). After a short time the line-up broke up and you played with different musicians. After the two albums Totentanz (1998, Mascot Records ) and Eva (2002, Hammerheart Records ) Theys left the group. The EP Matters of the Heart was created without his involvement. The last line-up is now active under the name Satyrian .

In 1999, Theys and friends founded the medieval rock group Iron Clad, which released the album Lost in a Dream in 2002 . In 2000 the group Lion's Pride followed, with members of Iron Clad and later also Ancient Rites. The group plays Oi! -Music with influences from the RAC .

ideology

Gunther Theys has a Eurocentric , new right worldview, which he lives out with his groups. Both Iron Clad and Lion's Pride worked together with right-wing extremist groups. Lion's Pride in particular is featured on some compilations from the right-wing rock environment. The group took part in a charity CD for the skinhead club De Kastelein , which repeatedly allowed right-wing extremist groups such as Kampfzone and Steelcapped Strength (both also on the compilation ) to perform. They are also represented in a compilation with the bands Faustrecht and Kommando Skin . A split DVD with the right-wing extremist music group Brigade M was indexed on July 29, 2009 in Germany . The DVD shows the complete live set of Lion's Pride and Brigade M's farewell performance in front of around 350 nationalists in Dussen ( North Brabant ) on October 15, 2005. The performance was thus the largest right-wing rock concert in the Netherlands .

In an interview with the organization Blood and Honor , which is banned in Germany , Theys described the group as nationalist and patriotic ; he sees himself as a cosmopolitan, historically interested personality who respects other cultures but cares for his “own”.
