Thou Art Lord is a Greek black metal band that was formed in 1993.
history
Magus Wampyr Daoloth and Sakis Tolis got to know each other at Rotting Christ and decided in 1992 to start a joint project that was much more brutal and aggressive than the then still relatively tough Rotting Christ. The concept should also be much more oriented towards occultism and Satanism . In 1993 the demo The Cult of the Horned One was created , which was released in the same year as an EP under the title Diabolu Archaes Legones . Also in 1993 a split 7 '' was released with the Belgian band Ancient Rites .
In 1994 the debut album Eosforos was released , on which Mika Luttinen ( Impaled Nazarene ) and Gunther Theys (Ancient Rites) had guest appearances. In the same year Luttinen founded Diabolos Rising with Magus Wampyr Daoloth and Gunther Theys with Daoloth and Sakis Tolis Danse Macabre .
After the 1996 album Apollyon, the group paused because the two musicians were completely busy with their main bands. In 2002 the album DV8 was released. Instead of singer Gothmog, who sang the first albums, Spiros Antoniou from Septic Flesh took over the vocals. Akis Kapranos, a member of Septic Flesh, had also taken over the drums. The two were only engaged as session musicians. Since then, the group has continued as a trio. Magus Wampyr Daoloth also took over the vocals and with Sakis Tolis' brother Themis (Rotting Christ and Zemial ) a permanent drummer joined. Orgia Daemonicum , the last album to date was released in 2005.
style
music
At the beginning Thou Art Lord played fast, hard Black Metal with a few industrial elements and keyboard use . Also orchestral influences are apparent. The second album Apollyon, on the other hand, is more oriented towards Death Metal , especially through the hard guitar riffs. DV8, on the other hand, is a very fast black metal album that does without orchestral passages. With Orgia Daemonicum , the group created a tribute to their old role models such as Venom , Possessed , Slayer , Bathory , Sodom and Morbid Angel . A cover version of Power from Hell ( Onslaught ) ends this Thrash Metal album.
Texts
The early and late phases also differ from the lyrical concept. On the first two albums satanic and occult lyrics were in the foreground. Both albums are named after Greek deities: Hesperos , a god after whom the evening star Venus was named, and Apollyon, the Greek name for Abaddon . The later albums still have a satanic, occult orientation, but more sexual, orgiastic elements are in the foreground.
