Zemial is a Greek metal band.

history

The band was formed in 1989 and was inspired by Bathory and Hellhammer / Celtic Frost . The band's first release was the 7 " EP Sleeping Under TARTARUS , which was recorded at Molon Lave Studio. Except for Rotting Christ's promo recording Ade's Winds , there had been no death / black metal bands there before. Under the name Storm Studio and With a new sound engineer, its sound became typical of bands on the Greek scene. In contrast to other bands without a drummer, Vorskaath did not use a drum computer , but an electronic drum kit. Necrosauron from Rotting Christ played the drums as a guest musician. The EP was released in 1992 Torched Records: Since the first edition of 1000 copies was sold out after a short time, it was re-released by Gothic Records with a new layout, which corresponded to the ideas of the band and not the first pressing.

On For the Glory of UR the sound came closer to the early works of Hellhammer and Bathory; According to Vorskaath, this is not due to a change in style, but rather to a change in production and recording methods: For the Glory of UR was made with a Yamaha drums , BOSS pedals and various amplifiers, while the first EP featured an effects device for guitars and no amplifier was used. Intro and outro are from Magus Wampyr Daoloth .

The Zemial and Agatus members lived in Australia for a while, where they continued to work on their projects. However, they did not feel connected to the local scene. Instead, Vorskaath concentrated on his own music. He signed with Nazgul's Eyrie Productions, which however no longer showed any interest in Zemial after the change of ownership. Costa Stoios signed the band and re-released the EP For the Glory of UR on Iron Pegasus Records in 1999 along with other material.

In 2006 the band moved to Germany and released their album In Monumentum , which was included by Rock Hard in the list of "250 Black Metal albums you should know".

Texts and ideology

Vorskaath's texts are based on his own views on philosophy and religion and are inspired by Sumerian, Greek and Babylonian myths and scriptures and ancient mythologies in general, as well as history, occultism and considerations of nature. The band plays avant-garde metal with elements of thrash metal, black metal and progressive rock.

Vorskaath and the band distance themselves from right and left extremist views and do not accept any friends or comments on Myspace . They also speak out against any illegal activities there.
