Agatus is a Greek dark metal band.
biography
The band was founded in Athens in 1991 by Eskarth the Dark One (lead vocals, guitar). His brother Archon Vorskaath (drums, vocals), who also leads the band Zemial , joined them and still forms the core of the line-up with him today.
Their first demo recording, A Night of the Dark Ages , was released in 1993 and was recorded in the Molon Lave Studio in Athens. It is held in the traditional Greek style and is referred to by the band as "Dark Metal" and "Medieval Dark music".
In 1994 the band played in the same studio, which had since been renamed Storm Studio and changed the sound engineer, their debut album Dawn of Martyrdom with Magus Wampyr Daoloth as producer and sound engineer; it was released in 1996 by Sub Terra Records and Magus Wampyr Daoloth's Hypervorea Records. The album is dominated by epic and medieval passages. Two tracks on the album also appeared as a promo recording Black Moon . In the same year the 7 " EP Rite of Metamorphosis was released , which was recorded at Soundhouse Studio, Adelaide, Australia, where the bands Zemial and Agatus had moved. With this release the band developed in an even more melodic and atmospheric direction with a more independent sound.
In 2002 their second album The Weaving Fates was released on Iron Pegasus Records , recorded at Mixmasters Studio, Adelaide. Lyrically the album was inspired by Greek and Sumerian mythology , stylistically it approaches the death metal of the early 1990s, reflecting the roots of Agatus' music, while retaining the style elements typical of Greek metal. It was produced analog and by the band itself.
