Jan Yrlund (* 1970 in Tampere ) is a Finnish guitarist and graphic designer .

biography

After the end of his first band Claymore, Yrlund joined the thrash metal group Prestige shortly before graduating from the Tammerkosken Kuvataidelukio art school . The band quickly gained a good reputation in the Finnish underground scene and recorded a total of three albums. Then they decided to take a break that would last a total of 10 years.

Yrlund then joined the gothic rock group Two Witches . When their singer Anne Nurmi switched to Lacrimosa , Yrlund recorded pieces from the CDs Schakal & Inferno for Lacrimosa in 1994/95 and was also in the Lacrimosa live band during this time.

Meanwhile, Yrlund also played in the groups Boobytrap and Main. In 1997 he joined Ancient Rites and also supported Gunther Theys ' side project Danse Macabre , which from 2004 called itself Satyrian . In 1998 Yrlund did his Master of Arts at the University of Amsterdam .

In 1997, Yrlund founded his graphic design studio Darkgrove Design, which is primarily involved in the music industry. He designed the cover design for his own bands, but also commissioned work for, for example, Týr and Korpiklaani . His focus is on realistically drawn fantasy and horror art. He also created the web design of several websites for music groups such as Manowar and Stratovarius . In 2008 he designed some stage designs for the 52nd Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki .

In addition to Satyrian, Yrlund is also active as a musician with Imperia and Sinmasters .
