The Dreamside is a German-Dutch metal / electronic band that was founded in 1993 in Rotterdam.

history

The early years

The Dreamside was founded in 1993 by Kemi Vita (vocals) and Remco Helbers ( Chapman Stick ). Both were already involved in other music groups, including Born for Bliss , and met in 1992. The Dreamside's initial influences included groups such as Siouxsie & the Banshees , Cocteau Twins , The Cure , Dead Can Dance , This Mortal Coil and The Southern Death Cult .

In 1994, the band signed a deal with Deathwish Office, a Gunnar Eysel ( Love Like Blood ) record label and sub-label of Nuclear Blast , and released their debut album Pale Blue Lights , which received mostly positive reviews.

In 1996, Helbers left the band and was replaced by Fried Bruggink (e-bass, vocals), who was already involved in the debut work. In the same year, the second album Apaika was released with this line-up . The Dreamside found support from Diex (music, additional programming), Wouter van der Zwaan (acoustic and electric guitar), Laura Capitani ( viola da gamba ), Bert Smorenburg (additional programming) and Marijn van der Ven (piano). For the first time the band toured the United States.

New beginning

In 1998 Roman Schönsee joined the band ( Pyogenesis , The Bloodline ), The Dreamside developed over time a significantly harder and metal-oriented sound.

In 2001 the album Mirror Moon was released on the metal label Serenades Records. Only a year later I got in touch with Dancing Ferret Discs , who published Faery Child, a retrospective collection for the American market. At this time the band had undergone a complete change in style and image.

On the following album Spin Moon Magic the metal elements were further intensified. From this work the track "Open Your Eyes" was decoupled, on which The Crüxshadows singer Rogue acted as a guest singer.

style

While the early releases Pale Blue Lights and Apaika were still at home in the dark wave environment, the band turned to the metal environment with their third album "Mirror Moon" in 2001. Kemi Vita's voice is often described as variable, versatile and dominant and is sometimes compared with that of Dolores O'Riordan or Björk .
