Love Like Blood was a band that was founded in Geislingen an der Steige in 1988 . Stylistically, the band was initially assigned to Gothic Rock . In the mid-1990s, the fourth work, "Exposure", saw a stylistic change in the direction of Gothic Metal .

Band history

The early years

In 1988 some students founded the band Love Like Blood, which was named after the song of the same name by the English band Killing Joke . The original line-up included Gunnar Eysel (bass), Peter Büchele (guitar), Jochen Schmid (drums) and Predrag “Gonzo” Vulin (vocals). On earlier demo recordings, Vulin's vocals were based heavily on the voice of Ian Curtis , the singer of the English band Joy Division .

Vulin left the band and was replaced by Jörg "Yorck" Eysel. In 1989 the 4-track debut EP "Sinister Dawn" was released on the band's own label Deathwish Office . The band made appearances with bands such as The Rose of Avalanche , Arts and Decay and Girls Under Glass .

In 1990 the LP "Flags of Revolution" was released. In 1990 guitarist Büchele got out and was replaced by Stephen Noschilla (guitar, keyboards). In October and November of the same year Love Like Blood went on tour in Germany.

At the end of January 1991 the band recorded the mini LP "Ecstasy". On the “Ecstasy” tour that followed in the spring, guitarist Hans-Jörg “Ali” Greiner was added as a further band member. Afterwards, Love Like Blood gave concerts with artists such as Red Lorry Yellow Lorry , M. Walking on the Water and Das Ich .

Turning to hard rock

In the summer of 1991 Noschilla and Greiner left the band. They were replaced by Mark Wheeler (guitar), who - musically influenced by groups like Queen , Yes and Led Zeppelin  - decisively shaped the sound of Love Like Blood. With Love Like Blood he played the maxi “Kiss & Tell” in 1992, which initially continued classic Gothic Rock, and the album “An Irony of Fate”, which already had more hard rock elements. "An Irony of Fate" was the first release no longer via Deathwish Office, but via Rebel Records / SPV .

In 1993 the band recorded the album "Odyssey". Shortly after its release, Wheeler left the band. He was succeeded by Colin Hughes (guitar). With him the band recorded the album "Exposure".

Turning to Gothic Metal

After Love Like Blood moved away from traditional Gothic Rock with the second album "An Irony of Fate" , the 1995 album "Exposure" marked a clear turn to Gothic Metal .

In 1997 the band released the maxi CD "Taste of Damocles". Colin Hughes (guitar) and founding member Jochen "Joxx" Schmid (drums) were no longer represented as musicians.

In 1998 the band celebrated their tenth anniversary with the release of an EP entitled "The Love Like Blood EP", on which the post-punk band Killing Joke was recorded as a cover version . The band also moved to the Hall of Sermon record label . In the same year the album "Snakekiller" followed. It contains all tracks from the EP "The Love Like Blood EP". The drummers AC ( Lacrimosa ) and Ed Warby ( Gorefest ) as well as the guitarist Frank Schwer von Silke Bischoff were involved in the recordings of the album . Peter Tagtgren was responsible for the production .

In 2000 the album "Enslaved + Condemned" was recorded in England. From this point on, Timo Deininger (guitar), Alex Schädler (guitar) and Al Sauer (drums) played with the Eysel brothers. On the album “Chronology of a Love Affair” (2001), 15 songs by other bands from two decades of rock and metal music were interpreted in addition to their own song “Injustice”.

After a break of more than ten years, the band gave their official farewell concert on June 9, 2011 as part of the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig.
