Mercedes Otto-Stermitz (born April 24, 1958 in Styria as Mercedes Stermitz ) is a former Austrian racing driver and Miss Austria from 1983.

Life

Until she participated in the Miss World election in 1984 as the incumbent Miss Austria, Stermitz pursued an international career as a model .

Just one year later, like her future DTM colleagues Beate Nodes and Annette Meeuvissen , she took part in the Ford Fiesta Ladies Cup for two seasons. Together with Meeuvissen, she made it into the World Touring Car Championship in 1987 . In a BMW M3 , used by Schnitzer Motorsport and later by Linder Rennsport , she started six of the eleven races of the season. Because of the points system at that time, she could not record any countable results despite two respectable seventh places in Spa-Francorchamps and Calder . In the same year, Stermitz and Meeuvissen competed with Ellen Lohr in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring . In addition, Stermitz took part in three races of the German Formula 3 Championship for Mönninghoff Racing , also without any points. In 1988 Stermitz entered the German Touring Car Championship with Linder . With eleven points in twelve races, she was 37th overall at the end of the season. Her best result was a 15th place in Wunstorf . She contested her last DTM race on the Hungaroring .

After her involvement in the DTM, Stermitz only drove sporadically, including some guest starts in sports car races. 1992 was her last year in active motorsport. For the Jacques Isler Racing Team she took part in a Dallara - Alfa Romeo in the German Formula 3 Championship, again without winning any points.

After a serious traffic accident in 1993, Stermitz had to end her motorsport career for good.

Stermitz is married and has a son and a daughter.
