Pierre Fort ( Occitan : Pèirafòrt ) is a commune with 897 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Flour and the canton of Saint-Flour-2 (until 2015: canton of Pierrefort ). The inhabitants are called Pierrefortais .

geography

Pierrefort is located south of the Monts du Cantal mountain range , about 29 kilometers east of Aurillac . The neighboring communities of Pierrefort are Brezons in the north and north-west, Cézens in the north and north-east, Gourdièges in the east, Sainte-Marie in the east and south-east, Paulhenc in the south and Saint-Martin-sous-Vigouroux in the west.
