Saint-Théodorit ( Occitan : Sent Teodorit ) is a place and several hamlets (hamlets) existing and farmsteads community with 532 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the southern French department of Gard .
location
Saint-Théodorit is located approx. 8.5 km (driving distance) northeast of Quissac in the southern foothills of the Cevennes at an altitude of approx. 145 m above sea level. d. M. The closest major city is Nîmes (approx. 35 km southeast). The climate is temperate; Rain falls throughout the year.

The increase in population at the end of the 20th century is mainly due to the relative proximity to the major cities of Nîmes and Montpellier .
economy
For centuries, the residents of the community lived on a self-sufficient basis by farming and raising livestock (sheep, goats). Today tourism is important in the form of renting holiday homes ( gîtes ).
history
In 1121 the now defunct Sauve Abbey founded a priory ( villa sancti theodoriti ) here. In the 16th century, many residents of the place joined Protestantism . During the Camisard Wars (1702–1704) the place experienced new acts of violence.
Attractions
- An expressive statue menhir discovered in the municipality by a plowing farmer is now in the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Nîmes .
- The small, unadorned Protestant church, built between 1864 and 1868, has a simple bell gable .
- The Catholic parish church of Saint-Théodorit is also an unadorned building.

- The buildings of the cooperative winery ( cave ) of Saint-Théodorit, built in 1930 , were declared a monument historique in 2013 .
