Revens

Revens is a French commune with 21 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gard department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes Causses Aigoual Cévennes .

geography

Revens is the westernmost municipality in the Gard department. It is located in the Cevennes National Park , south of the Forêt Domaniale du Causse Noir . To the west of the village is the Dourbie valley and the Trèvezel to the south-west . The village extends along a road.

history

Earlier, Revens belonged to the Viguerie of Le Vigan and Meyrueis and ecclesiastically to the diocese of Nîmes . It was first mentioned in the 12th century under the name Rodens .

Attractions

Construction of the Saint-Pierre church , which began in the 19th century, was completed with the completion of the bell tower in 1889. It replaced the old Saint-Pierre church . This is on the banks of the Dourbie and was therefore very remote. It became a hermitage .

The Menhir de Revens is a single menhir , the exact function of which has not been clarified. Today the menhir suffers a lot from the weather.
