Attractions

The church of Saint-Martial is considered a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture of the 12th century. The master builder's challenge was to build a stable building out of slate ( schiste ) and crumbly rock. During the restoration in the 1980s, the walls were stripped of the weathered and worn plaster and the stone was exposed. The church was probably connected to a fortification earlier, but this has disappeared over the centuries.
