Causse Noir

The Causse Noir is a limestone plateau in southern France . The name comes from the dark pine forest on the plateau.

With about 200 km² it is one of the smallest of the Grands Causses in the Massif Central . The Causse Noir is bordered in the west by the Tarn Gorge, which is almost 500 meters deep , and in the north by the Jonte Gorge , which flows into the Tarn at Peyreleau. To the west are the Dourbie gorges . In the east, the Causse is bounded by the Cevennes and Mont Aigoual . The Causse Noir belongs to the Lozère , Aveyron and Gard departments .
