The Mont Aigoual is located in the south of the Cevennes and is with 1567  m the highest mountain in the Gard and the second highest in the Cevennes, after Mont Lozère .

Hiking trails

The popular hiking trail "montée des 4000 marches" leads up the mountain, on which one has to conquer over 1200 meters in altitude over 9 kilometers. It has its starting point in the municipality of Valleraugue . A competition has been held on this trail since 1988. In this, the runners do a lap of 1.8 kilometers in the village before the 9 kilometer climb.
