MovieJack used to be software for converting video DVDs , now a video downloader. As the first software on the commercial market, it paved the way for many similarly structured so-called rippers available today .

Developed by Engelmann Software and distributed by SAD , the function for cracking the CSS copy protection was removed in the course of the new 2003 copyright law and afterwards only video DVDs without copy protection could be converted. At the time, the manufacturer of MovieJack had to take all products off the market due to an injunction from the Waldorf law firm .

Over the years, the MovieJack product range has been continuously expanded. In addition to the original ripper for converting to VCDs or SVCD, video DVDs could also be transcoded or split.

With MovieJack Mobile , the market for mobile devices was also served and DVDs and all kinds of video files are among other things. a. for cell phones (in 3GPP format) or the Playstation Portable . Was used thereby u. a. the video codec HDX4 .

MovieJack has been a video downloader for portals such as YouTube, Clipfish, Dailymotion, Vevo, Vimeo and some media libraries since 2016 .
