Ussel ( Occitan : same name) is a French municipality with 479 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Flour .
geography
Ussel is located around 13 kilometers west-northwest of the small town of Saint-Flour south of the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park .
The Chervigieux, Luc d'Ussel and Ussel settlements as well as numerous individual farms belong to the municipality.
history
Historically, the municipality belongs to the Planèze region within the Auvergne. Ussel belonged to the District of Saint-Flour from 1793 to 1801. Also from 1793 to 1801 to the canton of Tanavelles and from 1801 to 2015 to the canton of Saint-Flour-Sud .
Part of the Aérodrome de Saint-Flour-Coltines airfield is located in the municipality of Ussel.
