Sports car world championship 1980

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1980 sports car world championship was the 28th edition of the FIA sports car world championship , which was announced for the first time in 1953.

championship

The racing series comprised 11 races. It began with the 24-hour race in Daytona on February 2 and ended with the 6-hour race in Dijon-Prenois on September 28, 1980. The sports car world championship (later the endurance world championship for short WEC) also became the world championship in 1980 of the brands called. Vehicles in groups 1 to 5 were permitted, divided into the divisions up to 2000 cm³ and over 2000 cm³. The duration of the race was set at six to twelve hours (except for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona Beach). A drivers' world championship was not held.

By adding up the two class ratings, Lancia was made world champion.
