Career in motorsport

Marco Vanoli was an amateur racing driver in motorsport for many years and achieved successes that came close to a professional career. This began in the mid-1970s in touring and sports car racing . He contested his first races in the German racing and European touring car championships . In 1979 he entered the sports car world championship . Together with his compatriots Angelo Pallavicini and Herbert Müller , he took a surprising fourth place overall in the 1979 in a Porsche 934 . The third-placed Kremer - Porsche 935 / 77A driven by Laurent Ferrier , François Sérvanin and François Trisconi was only half a lap away after a 24-hour drive. However, the rank was enough to win the racing class for GT vehicles up to 3-liter displacement. The 6-hour race at Pergusa he finished with partner Pallavicini third overall and continued to do so in a World Cup race for the first time on the podium.

In 1980 he was overall sixth in the European Touring Car Championship. Partner in Eggenberger Motorsport - BMW 320i was Enzo Calderari . He was able to repeat this good position in the overall classification in the following two years. In 1981 he was fifth and again in 1982 sixth in the final standings.

His only race win - along with 16th class wins - he celebrated in 1983 at the 3-hour race in Hockenheim ; together with Calderari in the BMW M1 . Vanoli was active as a driver until 1986. It was last used at the Le Mans race this year , when the Alba AR3 that had been in the test failed prematurely due to an engine failure.
