The Eggenberger engine AG is a Swiss engine builder and - tuner based in Lyss ( Canton of Bern ).

The company was founded in 2005. However, its activities are based on the sole proprietorship Eggenberger Motorsport founded in 1973 by Ruedi Eggenberger , which was converted into a stock corporation in 1993 . Eggenberger Motorsport AG went bankrupt in October 2005 . Since then, the activities have been continued by Eggenberger Motorenbau AG, which was founded a few days earlier.

Between 1979 and 1996, the Eggenberger Motorsport company competed with BMW , Volvo and Ford vehicles in various national and international racing series such as the World and European Touring Car Championship and the German Touring Car Championship . International greats such as Bernd Schneider , Marc Surer , Klaus Ludwig , Johnny Cecotto and Thierry Boutsen could be signed as drivers .

The team's first major success was winning the 6-hour race in Kyalami, South Africa, with drivers Helmut Kelleners and Eddie Keizan . Between 1980 and 1988 Eggenberger was able to win the European Touring Car Championship five times. In 1987 Klaus Ludwig, Steve Soper and Klaus Niedzwiedz won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in a Ford Sierra Cosworth .

At the 1984 AVUS race , Eggenberger entered the German Touring Car Championship. In 49 races, the Swiss achieved four wins, two pole positions and three fastest race laps. After the race in Donington Park ( 1991 ) Eggenberger left the DTM.

In 1996 Eggenberger and Walter Schmid became European Autocross Champion in a Ford Sierra .
