Alain Ferté (born October 8, 1955 in Falaise ) is a French racing driver . He is the older brother of Michel Ferté , who also raced.
Career
After driving in Formula 3 and winning the prestigious race in Monaco there, he switched to Formula 2 , which later became Formula 3000 . He took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times , for the first time in 1983. In 1986 he drove a Porsche 956 for Team Brun alongside Belgians Thierry Boutsen and Didier Theys . In 1989 he set a new lap record with a Jaguar . In 1991 he almost won the race in a Sauber Mercedes . He shared the vehicle with Jean-Louis Schlesser and Jochen Mass . The trio led the race for 21 hours but had to retire three hours before the end of the race. But in 1994 he was able to take the pole position .
After his career in sports cars , Alain Ferté competed in truck races from 1998 . In his first season he scored 83 points. In 2000 he moved from the Dutch designer DAF , with whom he made his debut in trucks, to the German manufacturer MAN , where he stayed until 2001. In 2002 he switched to the Czech manufacturer Tatra .
Eleven years after his last participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997, Alain Ferté returned to this race in 2008 and started in a Ferrari F430 GT for the JMB Racing team , finishing fourth in the GT2 class. In 2012 he started again in this classic endurance race.
