François Mazet (born February 24, 1943 in Paris ) is a former French automobile racing driver and Formula 1 driver .
Career
François Mazet became French Formula 3 champion in 1969 in his second season . This opened the doors to Formula 2 for him . Although he achieved only poor results there in 1970 and 1971 (his best placement was fourth in Pau 1970), he took part in a Formula 1 race. This was the 1971 French Grand Prix . It would be the only one of his career. He drove in a March 701 owned by Jo Siffert . He started from 23rd position and finished 13th.
In the 1980s he got into sports management and sponsorship. So he helped Lotus to sponsor Essex Petroleum .
