Yves Sarault (born December 23, 1972 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach .
Career
Yves Sarault was selected during the 1991 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as the 61st player overall by the Montreal Canadiens . He began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian junior league LHJMQ , in which he was active from 1989 to 1992 for the Victoriaville Tigres , the Saint-Jean Lynx and the Trois-Rivières Draveurs . At the beginning of the 1992/93 season, the winger completed two games for the Wheeling Thunderbirds from the East Coast Hockey League and was then added to the squad of the Montréal farm team Fredericton Canadiens . The attacker played for the Canadiens for a total of three years in the American Hockey League . Sarault made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1994/95 season , when he was allowed to play eight times for the Montréal Canadiens.
On November 26, 1995, the left shooter was given together with Craig Ferguson in exchange for an eight-round vote for the 1997 NHL Entry Draft to the Calgary Flames . After just one season, the Canadian signed a contract as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche . In the two seasons that he ran up for Colorado, Sarault played again, however, mainly for their then AHL farm team, the Hershey Bears . The attacker then signed on July 20, 2000 as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers . In the 2001/02 season , the Canadian was finally under contract with the Nashville Predators , but he only completed one NHL game for the team and spent the rest of the season in the American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals and the Philadelphia Phantoms .
After he had started the 2002/03 season with the Springfield Falcons from the AHL and the Prolab de Thetford Mines from the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey , Sarault signed a contract with SC Bern from the Swiss National League A on January 19, 2003 . In his second season in Switzerland, the Canadian won the championship with his team . For the 2005/06 season , the winger moved to Bern's league rivals HC Servette Genève . This was followed by two more one-year contracts with HC Davos , with which he won his second championship title in Switzerland in 2007, and with EHC Basel . In the 2008/09 season , Sarault was under contract with ERC Ingolstadt from the German Ice Hockey League . After that he was initially without a club before he was signed by the Vienna Capitals in December 2009 . In October 2010, Sarault returned to North America and signed a contract with the 3L de Rivière-du-Loup in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. During the 2011/12 season, the Canadian was also head coach of a sub-class ice hockey team in the Ontario East Minor Midget Hockey League . For the 2012/13 season he was signed by the relocated LNAH team Cornwall River Kings before ending his career in 2013.
Coaching stations
In 2014 he worked as an assistant and youth coach at Lausanne HC. After Dan Ratushny's dismissal in October 2017, he initially took over the post of head coach of the LHC on a temporary basis, and was confirmed in this post at the beginning of November 2017 until the end of the 2017/18 season. However, he was replaced prematurely: On February 8, 2018, Sarault had to vacate the head coach position after defeats in the previous five games and the LHC was third from last in the National League .
