Already during his college days , where he had played for Cornell University from 1988 to 1991 , Ratushny was a member of the Canadian national team , which then consisted only of amateur players. With her he took part in the Spengler Cup in 1988 and 1991 and won the silver medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics . At the end of the 1991/92 season , the defender played two games for the Swiss national division EHC Olten . Ratushny played the following year with the Fort Wayne Komets from the International Hockey League , with whom he won the championship . A year later, the defender signed a two-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League , for which he played a game. In the 1994/95 season , the right- shooter returned to the Fort Wayne Komets, the contract with the Canucks was dissolved. A year later Ratushny played for the Carolina Monarchs in the AHL, but moved back to the IHL for the Peoria Rivermen during the season . In the 1996/97 season he changed clubs within the league and played for the Rafales de Québec . During the second season Ratushny left the Rafales and hired the AHL team Albany River Rats . After a year in Albany, he returned to the IHL to the Kansas City Blades , for which he laced the skates in the 1998/99 season.
In 1999 Ratushny hired the Japanese club Seibu Prince Rabbits , where he won the championship in the Japan Ice Hockey League . Ratushny began his coaching career in 2009 at EHC Olten in the Swiss National League B . First he had signed a contract for one year, which he extended after one season. After two years in Switzerland, he made use of an exit clause and signed with the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . Already in his first season in Straubing he made it into the play-offs for the first time, and his team finally reached the semifinals in the DEL. Ratushny was subsequently named Trainer of the Year 2012. After three years in Straubing, the Canadian initially extended his engagement again. On May 12, 2014, however, he asked the Tigers' management to terminate the contract and accepted an offer from the multiple Austrian champions EC Red Bull Salzburg . He led Salzburg to the championship title in the Austrian ice hockey league in 2015 and 2016 . From 2014 he was also the coach of the Austrian national team .
In April 2016 he moved to Switzerland: Lausanne HC from the National League A (NLA) provided Ratushny with a two-year contract. In May 2016, after a two-year term in office, he announced his retirement as Austrian national coach in order to concentrate on his task in Lausanne. In 2016/17 he led Lausanne to fourth place in the NLA main round (“qualification”) and was named the best coach in the main round. On October 11, 2017, LHC announced the impeachment of Ratushny after starting the 2017/18 season with twelve points in ten games.
