The Spengler Cup 1991 ( French Coupe Spengler 1991 ) was the 65th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 1991 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue .
It was the first time that HK CSKA Moscow won the tournament by beating HC Lugano 5-2 in the final . In the qualification, the Confederates had just won the game 5: 4 in the penalty shootout . It was the first tournament success for the Soviet record champions and the third tournament success for a club from Moscow after HK Spartak Moscow had been victorious in the previous two years. The host HC Davos did not take part in the tournament and was represented on the Swiss side by the finalist HC Lugano.
mode
The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
