2013

The Spengler Cup 2012 ( French Coupe Spengler 2012 ) was the 86th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 2012 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The local Vaillant Arena acted as the venue . A total of 71,544 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which were all sold out.

It was won by Team Canada , which won the tournament with a 7-2 victory in the final over the hosts HC Davos . Already in the qualification the Canadians had clearly won the game 5-0. In the third edition with the new mode, the two group winners of the preliminary round did not meet for the first time. For Team Canada it was the twelfth title win at the Spengler Cup since 1984 and the first since 2007 . Due to the lockout in the National Hockey League and the delayed start of the 2012/13 NHL season , numerous well-known players from the league took part in the tournament , as in 2004 .

The American Patrick Kane in the service of the finalist and host from Davos was the most successful player in the tournament with five points , including four goals.

mode

The six participating teams initially played in two preliminary round groups - named after the Davos ice hockey legends Richard Torriani and the Cattini brothers Ferdinand and Hans - three teams each in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team initially played two games Placements based on points. The two group winners qualified directly for the semifinals, while the second and third placed in a knockout duel played off the other two semifinals. The two semi-final winners finally determined the tournament winner on the final day.
