Josef Marha (* 2. June 1976 in Havlíčkův Brod , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech hockey player ( center ), who recently for HC Davos in the Swiss National League A has played.
Career
Josef Marha learned how to handle pucks and clubs with the Czech extra division team Dukla Jihlava and played his first first division game in the 1992/93 season. Although he was selected in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Québec Nordiques as 35th in the second round, he played one more season for his home club. As a rookie , he scored an assist in two NHL games in the 1995/96 season for the team that has since moved to Colorado and renamed Colorado Avalanche , but was mainly used by the farm team , the Cornwall Aces . In the following season he was in the squad of the Hershey Bears , which won the championship of the American Hockey League , the Calder Cup . Marha was the best point player in the AHL playoffs with 16 assists and 22 scorer points.
In March 1998 , Josef Marha was transferred to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , where he scored seven goals in the remaining twelve games of the season and thus caused enthusiasm among coaches and the audience. After the following season did not start well for him, Marha was given to the Chicago Blackhawks , where he reached seven scorer points in 22 games. But already in the next year he improved his game both on the offensive and on the defensive and completed a total of 81 games for the Blackhawks (ten goals, 12 assists). At the beginning of the following season he was still in the NHL roster of the Blackhawks, but was sent to the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL after 15 games to improve his game.
In the summer of 2001 Josef Marha received a contract offer from HC Davos , which he accepted because of his disappointment with the previous season. In his very first season in the HCD jersey, he won the Swiss championship and already back then, with six goals and eight assists in 16 playoff games, he proved that he is a playoff player. Three years later, in the 2004/05 season, he stood at the side of the NHL stars Rick Nash , Niklas Hagman and Joe Thornton again in the final for the NLA crown, scored ten points in 15 playoff games and thus contributed his part to the 27th championship title of the HCD. The following season they were back in the playoff final, but failed 4-1 at HC Lugano .
In the 2006/07 season , the HCD repeated the success of 2005, with Marha scoring several game-winning goals and becoming the HCD's best-point player (eight goals, six assists). During the season he also extended his contract with HCD until 2010. In the spring of 2010, Marha decided to return to the Czech Republic, but revised this decision over the summer and signed a new one-year contract with HC Davos in August 2010. After the playoff in March 2013, the Czech ended his active career.
International
In his junior years, Josef Marha represented his home country at international tournaments, including the Junior World Championships in 1994 and 1995 .
