Sergei Olegowitsch Zinoviev ( Russian Сергей Олегович Зиновьев ; born March 4, 1980 in Prokopjewsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who was last under contract with HK Sochi in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Sergei Zinoviev began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of Metallurg Novokuznetsk , for whose professional team he was active in the Russian super league from 1997 to 2000 . He started the 2000/01 season at Salawat Yulayev Ufa and finished it at Lokomotive Yaroslavl . The center then played for one year each for HK Spartak Moscow and Ak Bars Kazan . The 2003/04 season he began with the Boston Bruins , who had already selected him in the third round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft as a 73rd player. In the National Hockey League , however, he could not prevail and only played ten games for Boston. He was also in four games for his farm team Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League on the ice. He finally spent most of the season in the super league with his ex-club Ak Bars Kazan, where he was a fixture in the following years. In the 2005/06 season he was with the team Russian champions . At European level, he won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Kazan in 2007 and the IIHF Continental Cup a year later .
For the 2008/09 season Ak Bars Kazan was included in the newly formed Continental Hockey League . Subsequently, the club cut Zinoviev's salary, so that the KHL league management canceled his contract. A short time later he moved to HK Dynamo Moscow . For the 2009/10 season he joined Salawat Yulayev Ufa and won the Gagarin Cup with the team in the following season .
In July 2014 Zinoviev was signed by HK Sochi , shortly before the start of the season, this contract was canceled by mutual agreement. Zinoviev has been without a club since then.
International
For Russia , Zinoviev took part in the junior division exclusively in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2000 , where he won the silver medal with his team. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2003 , 2005 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2011 World Championships and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . At the World Championships in 2005 and 2007 he and his team won the bronze medal, and at the World Championships in 2008 and 2009 even the gold medal. He also represented Russia in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 on the Euro Hockey Tour .
