The 2000/01 season was the fifth season of the Superliga . HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk secured the championship title for the second time , while Vitjas Podolsk and Dinamo-Energija Yekaterinburg were relegated to the Wysschaja Liga .
Main round
mode
The 18 teams of the Superliga played against each other in a common main round, each team playing 34 season games. The league was then divided into three groups, with the teams in places 1 to 6 competing for the best position for the playoffs in a round trip, the teams in places 7 to 12 for the other two playoff places and the teams in places 13 to 18 for relegation, with the last two relegated. The eight best teams eventually qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win in overtime, and one point for a draw after overtime as well as a loss after overtime. No points were awarded for a defeat after normal time.
