Alexander Vladimirovich Semak ( Russian Александр Владимирович Семак ; born February 11, 1966 in Ufa , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who worked for the New Jersey Devils , Tampa Bay Lightning , New York Islanders from 1982 to 2005 and the Vancouver Canucks played in the National Hockey League . Since 2015 he has been General Director of Salawat Yulayev Ufa .

Career

Alexander Semak began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with Salawat Yulayev Ufa , for whose professional team he was active from 1982 to 1986 in the highest and second highest Soviet league . The center then moved to HK Dynamo Moscow , for which he also played for six years and with whom he was Soviet champions in 1990 and 1991 . In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , he was also selected in the tenth round as a total of 207 players by the New Jersey Devils . For this he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1991/92 season , after he had started the season at HK Dynamo Moscow. In his rookie year in the NHL, he scored five goals in 26 games and provided six templates. He was also used in seven games for their farm team , the Utica Devils from the American Hockey League .

During the lockout in the 1994/95 season , Semak first played in his Russian homeland at his ex-club Salawat Julajew Ufa. After resuming play in the NHL, he returned to New Jersey, for which he played 19 games before he was on March 14, 1995 together with Ben Hankinson in exchange for Shawn Chambers and Danton Cole to the Tampa Bay Lightning . The two-time junior world champion left the franchise in the summer of 1995 and joined the New York Islanders for a year . During the 1996/97 season , the Russian ran for both the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL, as well as the Las Vegas Thunder from the International Hockey League and the Syracuse Crunch from the AHL. In the following two years he was in one season each with the Chicago Wolves in the IHL and the Albany River Rats in the AHL under contract.

For the 1999/2000 season Semak returned to Europe and spent the season at EHC Freiburg in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey . From 2000 to 2003, the former NHL player played for his two ex-clubs Salawat Julajew Ufa and HK Dynamo Moscow in the Super League. He then spent a season each with their league rivals Severstal Tscherepowez , as well as with HK MWD Tver , with whom he rose in the 2004/05 season as champion of the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, in the super league. Following this success, he ended his active career at the age of 39.

International

For the Soviet Union , Semak took part in the junior division at the Junior European Championships in 1983 and 1984, as well as the Junior World Championships in 1984 , 1985 and 1986 . In the senior sector, he played for his country in 1987 and 1991 at the Canada Cup , as well as the World Championships in 1987 , 1990 and 1991 . He was also part of the Soviet Union 's rendezvous '87 . For Russia he was in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey squad .

After his career as a player he was accepted into the coaching staff of the HK MWD Tver and initially looked after the second team (HK-MWD-THK Tver). From November 2005 he was the assistant coach of the professional team.

In September 2006 he took over the coaching position with the second team of Krylya Sovetov Moscow , between 2007 and 2008 he was in the coaching staff of the first team of the club. In 2009 he took over the position of head coach at Tolpar Ufa , the junior team of Salawat Julajew Ufa from the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League , and led the team until 2013.

From April 2013 was a member of the regional parliament of Bashkortostan and deputy chairman of the committee for education, culture, sport and youth policy. Since March 2015, Semak has been General Manager ( Russian генеральный директор ) of Salawat Julajew Ufa.
